How It Began...
In 1998, back in Michigan, I got started making the common soup recipe and cookie recipe mixes in mason jars. I sold my first recipe mixes at a flea market and then craft shows soon after. During the second year, it was apparent that the jars were way to heavy to lug around, could break, were costly to ship and was becoming a very common craft item.
I then began sewing and stamping my own sacks and cutting red ties to close them. I came up with the name "Sack It To Ya!" from the old show "Laugh In" where they used to say "Sock it to ya, Sock it to ya!". So I made humorous cartoon labels with silly names to make them fun. As time went by, the popularity was growing and people were purposely searching for me at craft shows to buy my recipes in the old fashioned sacks. I started with 6 items and it grew to over 20 including recipe mixes, salad dressings and fun, humorous, non-food fun items.
That got to be more than I could manage, so I had a friend sew and stamp the sacks for me and I decided to keep the most popular items and perfected the best soup, cookie and bread recipes. I still add something new from time to time.
I moved to Georgia in 2005 and there were less craft shows here than in Michigan, so I just made them for friends, gifts or as party favors. I love making the recipe mixes and enjoy it when people laugh from the names of the sacks. So I have decided to take it a step further and have created this website to take it online and am doing craft shows again here in Georgia.
